Anarchy Online launched in 2001 with one of the most ambitious sci-fi MMO settings of its era. The 2002 Notum Wars expansion introduced player-built towers and territorial PvP that transformed the game from a faction-shooter MMO into a serious territorial sandbox. Tower fields, controller bonuses, and the Omni-Tek versus Clan faction conflict produced PvP dynamics that few subsequent MMOs have replicated cleanly. The game continues to operate, sustained by a small but committed community.
