ArcheAge
The Korean sandbox MMO that built one of the most ambitious PvP economies in the genre. Trade packs, naval combat, and territorial sieges defined the ArcheAge experience for the audience that engaged before the monetization undercut the design.

ArcheAge launched in 2013 with one of the most ambitious sandbox PvP economies the genre had attempted. Trade packs (player-crafted goods that had to be physically transported through contested territory), naval combat with player-built ships, sea PvP, and the housing/farm system gave the game an economic depth that subsequent sandbox MMOs have looked back to. The Western publisher's monetization decisions undercut the design over time, and the live service continues at reduced scale. Unchained briefly attempted to relaunch as a non-pay-to-win subscription model. The original audience that played peak ArcheAge still talks about the format as one of the most underutilized PvP designs in the genre.
