Asheron's Call ran from 1999 to 2017. Darktide, the dedicated PvP server, produced one of the formative populations of the open-PvP MMO genre. The allegiance and monarchy systems gave structure to political conflict in a way that no contemporaneous MMO matched, and the rosters that came out of Darktide leadership went on to define guild culture in DAoC, Darkfall, EVE, and the modern wave of full-loot games.
