Crowfall launched in 2021 after years of development by a team that included veterans of Shadowbane, Ultima Online, and Star Wars Galaxies. The throne-war design (campaign worlds with seasonal resets, eternal kingdoms as the persistent layer) was genuinely innovative and the audience that engaged was committed. ArtCraft sold the IP to Monumental in 2022, the live service shut down in 2023. The design language survives in the next wave of throne-war MMO concepts.
