H1Z1: King of the Kill

H1Z1: King of the Kill split off from the original H1Z1 survival game in 2016 and became the first major battle royale to dominate the Twitch streaming era, immediately preceding the PUBG and Fortnite breakouts. The competitive scene briefly hit serious tournament prize pools. Daybreak's gameplay and monetization decisions through 2018 collapsed the audience, the rebrand to Z1 Battle Royale could not recover it, and the game effectively sunset by 2020. The historical role as the first major BR is durable.
