Realm of the Mad God
Permadeath bullet-hell MMO with dueling arenas and a culture built around surviving raids, pulling rare loot, and never logging off cocky. Originated as a 2011 browser title; still alive on the desktop client.

Realm of the Mad God launched in 2011 as a Flash browser title from Wild Shadow Studios and grew into one of the most-cited permadeath PvE-with-PvP MMOs of the post-Diablo era. The PvP layer is dueling-arena combat (the Realm Eye / Pet Stasis Chamber spaces), with the PvP-adjacent "loot rage" culture being more central to the identity than competitive ladder play.
DECA Games picked the title up after Wild Shadow's acquisition history, ported it from Flash to a native client, and the audience persists in 2026 on a smaller but devoted player base. PPE (Pure Progression Event) speedruns and guild-organized event-boss races serve as the de-facto competitive loops.
The game's competitive identity is "you can lose everything in one bad pixel-perfect dodge." That risk profile is unusual in modern MMOs and is why the audience stays.
