The Realm Online is one of the foundational graphical MMOs, released by Sierra in late 1996 alongside Meridian 59 and a year before Ultima Online. The PvP layer was limited compared to what came after, with dueling and sparring rather than open-world conflict, but the social and economic dynamics established a template for the early commercial MMO scene. The game has been kept alive by a small dedicated community and remains operational decades after its original peak.
