WildStar launched in 2014 from Carbine Studios under NCsoft as a sci-fi MMO that aimed at the post-Vanilla-WoW raid and PvP audience. The PvP design was unusually ambitious for the era: Warplots was a 40v40 mode where two guilds built their own siege bases (deployable plugs for siege weapons, NPC defenders, structure layouts) and then attacked each other's plots.

The 40v40 format was the closest a Western MMO came to recreating the EVE-or-DAoC large-scale design with the production values of a modern AAA MMO. The technical execution wasn't perfect, the population didn't sustain, and the action-combat skill ceiling kept the casual audience from migrating from WoW.

Sunset November 2018 after a 2015 free-to-play conversion failed to stabilize the population. Profile preserved as the centerpiece of "what late-WoW-era MMO PvP could have looked like at scale."
