Battlerite launched in 2017 from Stunlock Studios as the spiritual successor to Bloodline Champions. The format was 2v2 or 3v3 arena combat with skill-shot mechanics, no auto-attacks, no last-hitting, no items, and short rounds. Each champion had a small kit (basic attack, three abilities, an EX modifier on each) which made the format more accessible than traditional MOBA depth.

The game had a real competitive scene in 2017 to 2018 (Stunlock ran a Battlerite Championship circuit). The audience couldn't sustain. The arena-MOBA hybrid format hit the wall every other entry in the genre hit, where MOBA players want farming and the FPS-arena audience wants more verticality. Battlerite Royale launched in 2018 as a BR pivot; both games shut down development in 2019 to 2020.

Profile preserved as the closest the arena-MOBA hybrid came to landing in the modern era.
