Nox
Westwood's 2000 isometric action RPG with three distinct classes (Warrior, Conjurer, Wizard), each with completely different mechanics. Dedicated multiplayer arena modes were ahead of their time.
Nox launched in 2000 from Westwood Studios with one of the more interesting class-design decisions in any action RPG: the three classes (Warrior, Conjurer, Wizard) had genuinely different mechanics rather than being statistical variants. Warrior is melee with weapon swings. Conjurer summons creatures and uses bow / poison / traps. Wizard is reactive spellcasting that has to be charged.
The PvP arena modes (free for all, team, CTF, king of the realm) were unusually well-designed for a 2000 ARPG. The class asymmetry meant matchups felt distinctive instead of mirror matches. The dedicated PvP servers ran for years.
EA killed Westwood in 2003. Nox was never re-released or modernized officially, but the OpenNox community project keeps the game playable on modern hardware. Catalog entry preserved as a foundational example of class-asymmetric ARPG PvP.
